Henry of Navarre finds himself King of France with an empty treasury and a country divided by religious wars. As he sits in his childrens' nursery at St. Germaine, he is haunted by his old enemies, passes through the darkness of personal grief, and finds the strength to proclaim religious tolerance for his country as he plays out the events of hs past years with his childrens' toys.
One actor plays all three "Henries". In the premiere performance at Northern Michigan University, three different actors played Navarre, Henry of Guise and Henri of Valois, and this version is also available.
